Toshiba announces new MG08-D Series HDDs with up to 8TB model

Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc. (TAEC), the North America electronic components business of Toshiba Corporation, has reportedly introduced a new family of hard drives developed for an extensive variety of business-critical applications, like email and Customer Resource Management (CRM), small-medium business servers, data analysis for business intelligence, and data-retention and compliance archiving.

Sources cite that the company’s new MG08-D Series HDD features 8TB, 6TB, 4TB models, in both SAS and SATA interfaces. The company’s 7th generation air mechanical design offers superior power efficiency and reduced component count to provide an improved total cost of ownership than its previous generation models.

The novel 4TB1 models are available in 4Kn, 512n, and 512e sector models, and the 6TB and 8TB models are available in 4Kn and 512e sector models, ensuring plug-and-play interoperability for applications using preceding 4TB models.

Speaking on Which, Scott Wright who is the Director for HDD Marketing at Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc. said that the company’s novel MG08-D Series offers exceptional reliability and power efficiency to enterprise and business-critical server as well as storage platforms.

He added that the company’s 7th generation traditional mechanical design uses conventional magnetic recording technology to offer plug-and-play versatility that is compatible with the extensive range of applications as well as operating system environments.

According to sources familiar with the knowledge of the matter, the new MG08-D Series offers many industry-standard features, including a 3.5-inch2 form factor, 7200rpm performance, 550TB a year workload4 rating, and choice of SATA 6Gbit/s or 12Gbit/s SAS Interface3. Compared with the company existing line of 4-6-8TB models, the novel 4TB model attains the widest range of benefits from the new MG08 generation of technology advances.

The Toshiba MG08-D Series with 4TB, 6TB, and 8TB models are anticipated to be available in 1CQ 2021.
