Cisco’s Webex to record over 600M participants amid resurging pandemic

Cisco’s video conferencing platform, Webex, has reportedly registered almost 590 million participants in the month of September and is poised to register more than 600 million in the month of October.

As per a statement by Cisco, even though the company has witnessed a surge in the number of meeting participants to over three times as compared to the previous year, a significant share of the utilization is still procured from businesses. In efforts to change that, Webex is featuring a new product for schools, depicting the capability of hosting a large classroom, splitting the class into smaller groups, and further bringing it back together.

Reports cite that Teams and Webex initially concentrated on business clients, while Zoom has been recorded to corner the market for everything from church services to virtual classrooms.

Webex had almost 324 million meeting participants in the month of March, with Teams disclosing a record of 200 million participants and Zoom announcing a total of almost 300 million daily attendees in the month of April. Sources state that the figures might not be comparable as organizations utilize myriad methods of counting attendees and do not unveil those methodologies.

Following the takeover of BabbleLabs, Cisco is on its way to introduce a new feature that would filter background noise comprising the sound of a passing car or a barking dog from a current meeting.

According to Jeetu Patel, the General Manager for Security and Applications business at Cisco, the company will make it available to all users from October 30 at no additional costs. He has further stated that Cisco will stay open to further acquisitions that intend to add new capacities to the Webex platform. The expansion in the number of Webex users, which began in March, has not yet abated, and participants continue to show rising numbers in October amid a resurging pandemic, added Patel.
