CorticoMetrics, a neuroimaging-focused company, has recently announced a 510(k) clearance for THINQ™ from the U.S. FDA (Food & Drug Administration). THINQ™ is an AI-based software developed by the company for neurologists and radiologists who provide quantitative information to drive patient assessment for myriad neurological conditions and disorders.
THINQ™ has the capability to automatically segment a T1-weighted MRI image of the brain and produce a report with volumetric visualizations and measurements of 30 critical brain structures. It then compares these measures to age & gender-matched percentile data. The reporting of the structure includes brain images with color-coded segmentations and plots that show how measurements compare to the reference data. In addition, the brain segmentations are available in the DICOM format as encapsulated JPEG formats.
Additionally, THINQ can produce 3 series of DICOM encapsulated JPEG images that contain several brain segmentation images overlaid on the input T1-weighted MRI data in a semi-transparent manner, a series for each of the axial, sagittal, & coronal viewing planes. The visualization and inspection of these segmented brain structures are enabled by these JPEG images in a DICOM viewer.
Founded in 2012, CorticoMetrics focuses on commercializing the neuroimaging analysis software that was developed at the MGH (Massachusetts General Hospital) and known to the researchers across the globe as FreeSurfer. The company develops several software applications to boost the sensitivity and accuracy of the information accessed by radiologists to detect and diagnose neurological disorders and conditions like hydrocephalus, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and dementia. These adverse conditions have been affecting millions of people across the globe.
p style="text-align: justify;">As per the statement made by CorticoMetrics’ Co-Founder & CEO, Nick Schmansky, THINQ™ reporting enhances the workflow of neurologists and radiologists. The software also aims at increasing the examination throughput and improving the overall quality of the patient outcome.
